Spring has sprung in Istanbul

My next post on Istanbul is still in progress – but I just thought I’d quickly share some photos of the gorgeous spring flowers around town.

Istanbul celebrates the arrival of spring with its Tulip Festival during April and May.  This was my good luck because they really are gorgeous.  I understand that last year they planted 13 million tulip bulbs.

Tulips planted in the garden of a mosque. They just caught my eye as I walked by;  they were in a fenced off area and I had to poke my camera through the fence to get this shot.

Garden at Topkapi palace.  (Ok not tulips, but hyacinths, I think.  They were very fragrant.)

Fountain area in front of the Blue Mosque.

A blanket of flowers tumbling down the hillside at Gulhane Park.

Still at Gulhane Park.  This was about the only peaceful place that I could find for a bit of timeout in all of Istanbul!

From the streets of Faith.

So many tulips!

And one more.

I’m just loving the spring flowers.  Hope you enjoyed them too. 🙂

I’ve changed my opinion of Istanbul. The park & flowers are just beautiful – love that blue ‘river’ of flowers running down through the trees. The city just may surpass Holland for displaying tulips.

Yes, I did wonder if I came across a bit negative in my last post (plus in emails to you). I had a real mix of emotions while there – some good, and some not so good. I think the not-so-good comes from the fact that I just don’t like cities – anywhere. Hopefully the next post will also show some more of the positive side of things though.

Lovely timing… looks beautiful & uplifting! Up around that big park that leads to a view across the Bosphorus (sp?) you can almost forget you’re in a bustling city. Guessing one I remember is Gulhane Park?

I didn’t realise that the festival was on until after I booked, so was very happy with the timing. Yes, you are correct about Gulhane Park – it’s next to Topkapi Palace, with views of Bosphorus (correct sp!).
